Director West Region
The Director West Region is based at PlasticsEurope’s office in Paris and will report directly to the Executive Director of PlasticsEurope. He/she ensures the professional management of the Association’s activities in France, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg with offices in Brussels and The Hague. This requires the ability to understand and anticipate the economic, political, cultural, and public landscape in the countries of the Region and across Europe. He/she is being supported by a Regional Team of 10 persons. The Regional Director is responsible for helping his respective countries in the Region to act in alignment with the overall European strategic plan via his Regional Team. He will also lead European projects
The Director West Region reports to the different association governing bodies among them, the Regional Advisory Board representing the membership of the Association with a regional and national focus and also the national partners with which PlasticsEurope collaborates in the Region. He/she maintains the dialogue between PlasticsEurope and its various external stakeholders in the countries of the Region effectively. He/she cooperates with national upstream and downstream associations and gathers emerging issues from the West Region, working with his Regional Team to prioritise importance and urgency.
The Director West Region acts as the advocacy leader of the Association in the Region. He/she understands and prioritises the issues and understands the opinions of respective policy makers in the countries of the Region and in Brussels, respectively, as they impact and represent opportunities or challenges for plastics. He/she implements the pan-European communications strategy of the Association taking into account national differences, both internally to member companies, as well as externally to major stakeholders.
To meet these expectations, the following key competencies are important for candidates:
The Director West Region must be able to network easily, both inside and outside the Association.
He/she will have demonstrated that he/she is able to maintain relationships at senior level within the political landscape of the countries in the Region as well as on the working level of ministries and institutions. His/her networking capabilities will be the result of good presence, a professional approach, strong interpersonal skills and the energy and drive to build awareness and credibility with key decision makers and stakeholders. In doing so he/she reveals a thorough knowledge of the political and law making process in the region and in the European Union.
The candidate must understand complex issues, position them in the political and social environment and translate them into easy to understand messages. He/she must have the flair to establish contacts and to deal with a variety of people and styles.
Cross – Cultural Skills
The ideal candidate has an international perspective and working knowledge and is able to work within different cultures. In his career he/she worked in multinational, multifunctional and complex organizations, ideally with some time working abroad in several countries and cultures.
Hence he/she is able to cross and bridge different national, ethnic, organizational, or business cultures. Because of his/her charisma and his/her presence he/she can create links between or bring people together from different cultures/countries to work as one team.
Ideally, the candidate has both international and senior management experience at a plastics producing company in France, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg. He/she has a strong academic background and is fluent in both French and English. He/she has demonstrated to be a real team player, both in an international and national environment.
