PlasticsEurope publishes outcome of Safety of Plastics conference

Listen. Learn. Engage: Building trust.

PlasticsEurope published the summary report on the major conference "Safety of Plastics: Let’s talk about it” that took place on 5 and 6 November 2013 in Brussels. During this conference, the plastics industry addressed several topical issues related to concerns on the safety of its products, the role of science in policy making, the application of risk regulation in Europe and the challenge for industry to communicate risks.

Karl- H. Foerster, Executive Director of PlasticsEurope, underlined the importance of constructive dialogues between different stakeholders. "Providing a platform for different points of view was exactly what we were trying to achieve. The diversity was reflected in the controversial but constructive discussions. We recognize the value of speaking with different stakeholders and collaborating with them to shape solutions to the best interest of society.” he said.

The report highlights the need for a greater transparency from the industry in order to build trust, openness and consensus between the different stakeholders. It also focuses on reconciling risk regulation, while ensuring a competitive and innovative industry for Europe.

The conference provided a platform for different viewpoints, bringing together nearly 200 participants, among them high-level representatives from NGOs, EU institutions, industry, science and academia.

The summary report is available to the general public, together with other information on the conference.
