PlasticsEurope Brussels joining "Let's Clean Up Europe" day!

On Friday May 8, the PlasticsEurope Brussels team joined for the second time the Let's Clean Up Europe (LCUE) initiative (first participation took place in May 2014). This initiative is part of the European Week of Waste Reduction programme calling for all kinds of clean-up activities all over Europe on 8, 9 and 10 May 2015 to raise awareness on the littering issue and to change citizens' behaviour.

As PlasticsEurope is keen to find solutions to the litter issue, 10 colleagues teamed up to clean up the surroundings of PlasticsEurope Headquarters located in the South Eastern part of Brussels. In total, during their 90-minute action, the team collected 36 kg of trash, consisting of cigarette butts, cans, glass and plastic bottles, paper, old umbrellas and even a metro seat!

The results of this local action were officially monitored and registered by the Brussels Region Environment administration, which is the coordinator for all LCUE Brussels activities.

Overall a very successful event, which not only gave us insight into the amount of waste ending up in our local environment, but also enabled us to get some positive reactions from people on the street. Let’s make this clean up action a yearly tradition!
