2014: a year of change and opportunities

PlasticsEurope welcomed the New Year with a reception on 21 January in Brussels. Among the guests were senior representatives from the EU institutions, the plastics and other related European industries. Vittorio Prodi (Italian MEP) opened the evening, reminding the audience of the important challenges Europe is facing in 2014, especially in regard to waste management and circular economy.

"The plastics industry is showing a great effort to make the dream of a circular economy become a reality and we all have to sustain that effort" Prodi said.

The event was the opportunity to bid farewell to Dr. Wilfried Haensel, who retired at the end of 2013, after seven successful years at the helm of PlasticsEurope, and to welcome Mr Karl-H. Foerster as the new Executive Director of the pan-European association.
