Risk Regulation: PlasticsEurope calls for cooperation towards a common goal

PlasticsEurope, represented by its president Patrick Thomas, joined the debate around risk regulation of chemicals and the application of the precautionary principle. "Safety is at the heart of everything we do. So, like other sectors we are concerned by the ever greater pressure on policy makers in Europe to impose bans or restrictions despite a lack of scientific evidence of risk” says Patrick Thomas in an opinion piece published in EurActiv, a Brussels policy read online news service.

Patrick Thomas explains that as an economical actor, the industry will be always questioned about commercial motivations and potential conflicts of interests. In this sense, the plastics industry recognizes the need to get better at listening to the concerns of the different stakeholders, so as to increase the credibility of an industry that has been often caricatured as a profit-driven industry.
